Automation and Electrical Technician — Midland, TX
Hands‑on technician for next‑valve and well‑control technology
TFS is looking for a sharp, hands‑on Automation and Electrical Technician to join our Technology Development team in Midland, TX. We’re building the next of frac valve and well‑control equipment, and we need a technician who can wire it up, make it work, and keep it running in the field.
This isn’t a panel‑shop‑only role. You’ll spend time on the bench, time in the lab, and time at the wellsite. If you like solving problems that don’t have a textbook answer and you want your fingerprints on technology that’s actually new, you’ll fit right in here.
What you’ll be doing- Building and wiring electrical and instrumentation packages for cutting‑edge electric, hydraulic, and electro‑hydraulic equipment.
- Installing and calibrating sensors, transmitters, and actuators.
- Supporting PLC, HMI, and motion‑controller integration and tuning.
- Troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on prototype and field equipment— in the shop and at the wellsite.
- Working alongside engineers to refine designs based on what you find in the field.
- Commissioning new equipment for our customers and providing technical support during deployments.
- 3‑7 years experience as an I&E Tech, E-Tech, Controls Tech, or Field Service Tech (oil & gas, but strong industrial experience welcome).
- Solid electrical and instrumentation fundamentals: schematics, loop sheets, low‑voltage DC, 120/240/480V AC, sensor calibration.
- Real mechanical aptitude. Our equipment is valves, hydraulic skids, and mechanical actuation. You should be comfortable turning wrenches as well as terminating wires.
- Working familiarity with PLCs and HMIs (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
- Self‑starter who can read a schematic, ask the right questions, and solve a problem without waiting for someone to tell them how.
- Valid driver’s license, willingness to travel ~25-30% (mostly Permian Basin), and ability to pass standard oilfield safety screenings.
- Hydraulic system experience.
- Motion control, servo, or VFD work.
- TWIC, SafeLandUSA, OSHA-10/30, or comparable certifications.
Based in Midland, TX. We have a strong preference for candidates who already live in or near Midland – this is a hands‑on role that requires being at our shop and in the field on short notice.
Why TFS- Work on first‑of‑its‑kind technology that’s actively redefining how the industry handles frac valves and well control.
- Small team, big impact. Your work will be on real equipment running for real customers, not buried in a stack of paperwork.
- Competitive compensation, full benefits, and a leadership team that treats technicians as core problem‑solvers, not just “the help.”
