Accumulator Technician (Experienced)
Wildcat Oil Tools Accumulator Technician (Experienced) is responsible for the maintenance, repair, testing, and readiness of API 16D accumulator systems and related pressure control equipment. This role requires strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems, nitrogen pre-charge procedures, and control unit functionality. The Technician ensures all equipment is fully operational, compliant with API standards, and ready for field deployment while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and testing of accumulator units and associated hydraulic control systems.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair accumulator bottles, pumps, regulators, manifolds, and control panels.
- Perform nitrogen pre-charge procedures and ensure proper accumulator pressure settings per API 16D standards.
- Conduct function testing of accumulator units to confirm proper operation of BOP control systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic and mechanical issues within accumulator systems.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, inspections, test results, and repairs on work orders and in BASIS or applicable systems.
- Assist in training and supporting Level 1 technicians on proper procedures and safety practices.
- Work with dispatch and shop personnel to prioritize repairs and prepare equipment for field use.
- Follow all Wildcat Oil Tools safety policies, OSHA standards, and API requirements.
- Participate in Wildcat University training programs to enhance knowledge of accumulator systems and pressure control equipment.
- Operate specialized tools including pressure gauges, nitrogen charging kits, hydraulic test units, and diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
- Always represent Wildcat Oil Tools in a professional and respectful manner on and off the job.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in hydraulics, mechanical systems, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5+ years of experience working with accumulator systems, BOP controls, or oilfield pressure control equipment.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, nitrogen charging, and control unit operations.
- Working knowledge of API 16D standards and accumulator compliance requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with pressure testing equipment, gauges, and hydraulic diagnostic tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and organizational abilities.
- Experience using maintenance tracking systems (BASIS) or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- API certifications related to pressure control or accumulator systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, H2S awareness, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
- Basic electrical knowledge related to accumulator control systems.
- Forklift and overhead crane/rigging certification.
Work Environment:
- Work in a shop environment with exposure to high-pressure hydraulic systems, nitrogen, grease, and heavy equipment.
- Must follow strict safety procedures and wear PPE, including gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and fire-resistant clothing.
- Work may involve lifting heavy components, standing for extended periods, and working in high-noise environments.
- Will require occasional fieldwork to support operations on location.
