Position SummaryThe Generator Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning generator systems and related equipment in both shop and field environments. This position requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair diesel and gas-powered generator systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including engine service, filter replacement, inspections, and system testing.
- Inspect, test, and troubleshoot AC/DC electrical systems.
- Perform load bank testing and automatic transfer switch (ATS) testing.
- Install, adjust, and replace mechanical and electrical components.
- Inspect and test equipment following repairs to verify proper operation.
- Complete accurate service reports, inspection forms, and customer documentation.
- Coordinate daily work assignments with the Fleet Manager.
- Maintain company equipment, service vehicles, and tools in a professional manner.
- Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development.
- Experienced technicians may mentor junior technicians and assist with complex troubleshooting or major repair projects.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency using a multimeter and electrical testing equipment.
- Proficient in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of natural gas engines.
- Good computer skills for service reporting and documentation.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Must provide your own basic hand tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work including climbing, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
- Willingness to travel overnight as required.
- Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
- Ability to obtain at least a Class D driver's license.
- Experience servicing and repairing diesel and/or gas engines is required.
- Proficiency working with PSI natural gas engines and Perkins engines is required.
- Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Previous power generation experience is preferred.
