Position Overview
The Helper to Journeyman (Independent Contractor/1099) supports licensed Journeymen in performing trade-specific tasks, jobsite preparation, equipment handling, and basic labor. This role is ideal for individuals gaining hands-on field experience while maintaining compliance with state and company standards. Work is performed under the direction of a Journeyman, with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Journeyman with daily tasks, installations, repairs, or service calls.
- Load, unload, and organize tools, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain clean, safe, and efficient work areas.
- Perform basic labor tasks such as measuring, cutting, digging, or carrying materials.
- Follow instructions to prepare worksites, set up tools, and support project workflow.
- Operate basic hand tools and power tools as authorized.
- Follow company and OSHA safety guidelines at all times.
- Complete assigned tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Communicate job progress, issues, or hazards to the Journeyman.
- Assist with documentation, photos, or checklists as required for job tracking.
- Prior experience in a trade or construction environment preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
- Ability to take direction, learn quickly, and work as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of tools, equipment, and safety practices.
- Mobile phone capable of receiving job assignments, photos, and checklists.
- Must provide own basic hand tools (if applicable)
- Must meet 1099 contractor requirements and maintain own tax obligations.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
- Dependability and punctuality.
- Professional communication with clients and team members.
- Outdoor and indoor jobsite environments.
- Exposure to weather, noise, dust, and physical labor.
- Work hours vary based on project needs; flexibility required.
This position is classified as an independent contractor. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and compliance with applicable state/federal regulations. Company does not provide employee benefits.
