Multiple Passenger Vehicle (MPV) Driver

- Supervises: NONE
The Multiple Passenger Vehicle (MPV) Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other district-approved destinations. This position is limited to the operation of vehicles designed to transport fifteen (15) or fewer passengers (excluding the driver). The driver operates under the direction of the Director of Transportation and is guided by applicable state laws, TEA regulations, and MISD policies.
Education,Certification, and Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Texas Driver's License (Class A, B, or C as appropriate).
- Current Texas Student Transportation Safety Certification (required by TEC §34.002) before and during employment.
- CDL is NOT required; position limited to vehicles with fifteen or fewer passengers.
- Valid DOT physical / medical examination as required by district policy.
- Criminal background check in accordance with TEC Chapter 22.
- One (1) or more years of experience operating passenger vehicles preferred; experience with students or youth a plus.
- Working knowledge of Texas traffic laws and safe driving practices.
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance inspection procedures.
- Ability to read maps, follow routing instructions, and navigate effectively.
- Operate district-assigned multiple passenger vehicles safely and in compliance with all applicable state and local traffic laws.
- Transport students and/or staff to and from schools, field trips, athletic events, UIL activities, and other approved destinations.
- Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure all passengers are properly seated and secured before operating the vehicle.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and other required documentation.
- Adhere to assigned schedules and routes; communicate promptly with dispatch or supervision regarding delays or route changes.
- Maintain appropriate student conduct during transport; enforce district student behavior expectations with professionalism and consistency.
- Complete all required training, certifications, and professional development as directed, including renewal of the Texas Student Transportation Safety Certification.
- Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor and complete required documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of assigned vehicle(s).
- Assist students, including those with disabilities or special needs, with boarding and exiting the vehicle when required.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable attendance and punctuality in support of department operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or designee.
- Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles safely in varying traffic and weather conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, campus staff, and colleagues.
- Ability to manage student behavior calmly and professionally.
- Dependable, punctual, and detail‑oriented.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as trip schedules require.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
- Model professional conduct consistent with MISD's values and community standards at all times.
- Comply with all district policies, TEA regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
- Participate in all mandatory trainings, including safety, first aid, and student management as directed.
- Submit to random and post‑incident drug and alcohol testing in accordance with district policy.
