Tact Staff Education is hiring a part-time Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher to support students with disabilities in a school-based setting in Midlothian, Texas. This flexible opportunity is ideal for an APE teacher or qualified related-service professional looking for a small weekly commitment of approximately 1.5 days per week while making a meaningful impact on students' motor development, physical fitness, independence, and confidence.
Responsibilities- Provide adaptive physical education services to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs
- Assess students' motor development, physical abilities, and functional mobility needs
- Develop and implement individualized physical education activities that promote participation and independence
- Adapt physical education activities to meet individual student needs and abilities
- Collaborate with special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other members of the educational team
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and contribute to goal development and progress monitoring
- Maintain accurate service documentation and student progress records
- Create safe, engaging, and inclusive physical education experiences for students with a wide range of abilities
Candidates should meet one of the following qualifications, as applicable to Texas requirements and district needs:
- Physical Education Teacher with appropriate Texas certification
- Special Education instructional or related-service personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide adaptive physical education
- Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT)
- Licensed Physical Therapist (PT)
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) working under appropriate supervision
Additional qualifications:
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities preferred
- School-based experience preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with the school team
- Must meet all applicable Texas state and district requirements for the role
