Subsurface Utility Engineering; SUE Technician

Position Overview

STV is seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician located out of our Midlothian, TX office. This position is responsible for designating buried utilities using advanced geophysical technologies and applications, accurately interpreting subsurface information in the field, processing data findings, and utilizing hydro‑excavating equipment to perform test holes. On‑going on‑the‑job training will be provided. The technician must adhere to all OSHA and STV safety guidelines.

• Designate buried utilities using advanced geophysical technologies and applications.

• Accurately interpret subsurface information while in the field and during post‑processing.

• Utilize hydro‑excavating equipment to perform test holes.

• Research utility company records and use this information to perform field observations.

• Understand project goals, scope of work, and client expectations.

• Excavate utilities and follow all applicable guidelines for scope of work.

• Safely operate the company vehicle and company equipment.

• Operate and maintain surveying and SUE equipment.

• Communicate findings and analysis.

• Travel overnight out of town as required.

• Effectively communicate with all fellow employees in written and verbal formats.

• Support both surveying and SUE departments and perform cross‑training of each other’s duties.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (NO EXCEPTIONS).

• Working knowledge of utility line locating equipment (SUE designating).

• Strong safety focus for all crew members, clients, and the public.

• Ability to interpret subsurface information in the field and during post‑processing.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation Range: $64,994.00 – $73,856.00. STV offers the following benefits.
