The Executive Director of Technology Services supports the education of MISD students by ensuring that technology resources, including network connectivity, communication systems, training, work space, documentation, and hardware/software tools are available to internal and external customers in order for them to successfully perform their duties or functions; serve as the point of contact for technology needs; serves as a leader for technology staff;
will be responsible for overseeing budgeted funds related to technology, managing the department personnel, working closely with the department staff on progress towards performance goals, device inventory, and proactively communicating the vision of the District to stakeholders. This position is responsible for ensuring that all systems, servers, and infrastructure are functional and operational on an ongoing basis (24 /7) to provide accessibility for all students, faculty, and staff.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree preferred
Bachelor’s degree required
Technology industry certification(s)
3-5 years of experience in a public education environment
5+ years of experience in supervision and management of a technology services department.
Special Knowledge and/or Skills - ExperienceA good candidate for this position will possess knowledge of information systems and operations management; knowledge of computer network, hardware, and software applications; the ability to lead, motivate and manage project teams; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; the ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data; the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
will understand the district’s issues/challenges and ensure that the district has the infrastructure to support current and future strategies; will understand and embrace district standard operating procedures in order to protect the district from undue risks; demonstrate a commitment to technology in public education; the ability to guide, support, train, motivate and encourage technology staff and others; possess in-depth knowledge of information security, cloud technologies, unified communications, route/switch, virtualization, and compute/storage systems;
possess strong understanding of school finance and funding sources, such as E-Rate; and the ability to conceptualize, launch, and deliver multiple IT projects to meet designated timelines and stay within budget.
The Executive Director of Technology Services will plan, organize, lead and/or supervise the activities of the technology department; communicate District IT policies, procedures, and plans concisely, clearly, and effectively to all stakeholders, internally and externally, in written and spoken format; manage, direct, and assign priorities and personnel and District partners to major projects to ensure attainment of district and department goals and objectives.
The Executive Director of Technology Services will perform consistent and timely review of progress toward completion of projects; serve as a resource for emerging technologies in curriculum and instruction as well as administrative tasks; collaborate with other district personnel in developing and coordinating professional development and training, especially as it relates to the use of technology; develop and implement an adequate network security plan, a disaster recovery plan, a replacement and disposal plan, and policies and procedures related, but not limited to, acceptable use;
