Position: Prescale Operator I (Days)

Job Summary

The Pre-Scale Operator (Days) is responsible for understanding ingredient measurements, Oracle transactions, and following batch records. The role ensures quality and efficiency standards through reduced scrap loss and yield improvements by accurately accounting for inventory. It involves maintaining mixing area efficiencies, safety, and quality while following GMP and PPE requirements. The operator communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Coordinate master sanitation for the pre-scale area.
  • Understand Kosher vs. non‑kosher requirements.
  • Calibrate scales daily and work with QA.
  • Ensure correct flow process for all mix areas so batches are ready.
  • Accurately prepare and complete all area paperwork with legible handwriting.
  • Monitor operational efficiencies, yields, scrap loss, and other key indicators to improve plant productivity.
  • Communicate with warehouse, process operator, and supervisor about any delays or problems that could hinder flow of product.
  • Monitor mixing operation to ensure ingredients are correct through the staging and mixing process.
  • Perform quality checks to assure standards are met.
  • Collaborate with management and QA for release items.
  • Relieve other production team members for breaks and absences when required.
  • Wear PPE when required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Safety
  • Adhere to all plant safety rules.
  • Report all near misses and accidents to the production supervisor or HR representative.
  • Participate in monthly safety inspections and report potential hazards to the safety committee or management.
Quality
  • Adhere to all Quality Assurance System guidelines.
  • Follow SOPs and SSOPs when making processing adjustments.
  • Comply with GMP, HACCP, and SQF programs.
  • Identify all critical control points (CCPs) and understand their functions.
  • Accurately prepare and maintain processing area documentation.
  • Write legibly and fully fill out all documents; operator must sign each.
Maintenance
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians in any capacity needed to expedite repair when maintenance is occurring in your area.
  • Report equipment disrepair promptly to avoid breakdowns.
Housekeeping
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist all areas of the plant with general housekeeping.
  • Cooperate with other shifts and the management team in housekeeping endeavors.
Communications
  • Ensure effective shift communication and teamwork with other operators each scheduled shift.
  • Maintain effective communication with support group members.
  • Use handheld radios professionally and respectfully.
Teamwork and Training
  • Promote and contribute to the development of a strong team.
  • Work well among co‑workers as a team.
  • Assist in coaching and training employees as requested by management.
Personal Development
  • Continuously improve knowledge of the Aseptic Filling process.
  • Become familiar with Sun Opta 360.
  • Complete and adhere to the Annual Alchemy Schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of math and computers.
  • Ability to prioritize, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines in a team‑based environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Stand 12 hours, lift 30‑50 pounds frequently, and push/pull pallet jacks and lifts with heavy loads.
  • Navigate stairways repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records with legible handwriting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve moderate to complex issues.
  • Understand allergen procedures and prevent cross‑contamination.
  • Adhere to all GMPs and safety procedures established by management.
  • Make quick and accurate decisions that aid production.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Demonstrate mechanical and troubleshooting skills and willingness to perform routine maintenance.
  • Work 12 hours as required and any overtime scheduled when coverage is needed.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Evaluate situations and make good decisions.
  • Inventory raw ingredients.
Additional Considerations
  • Location:

    Sun Opta plant in Midlothian, TX.
  • Shift: Day shift (A) position, 6 am to 6:30 pm on a 2‑2‑3 pattern.
  • Pay Rate: $25.80/hour.
  • Work Environment:
    Plant/manufacturing setting.
