The Discipleship Pastor at FMC Midlothian is a fulltime, salaried position responsible for facilitating a discipleship culture by providing strategic and pastoral leadership to the adult ministries of the church. This person should have a heart for helping people take the next step to grow in their faith, connecting people in Christian community, and equipping the church to live out God’s mission in the world.
The Discipleship Pastor designs, oversees, and administers spiritual development opportunities by recruiting, training, and empowering leaders to invest in the lives of others. A successful candidate will work closely with the Mission/Outreach Committee to create opportunities for service projects, outreach events, and evangelism.
1. Strategic Pastoral Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for discipleship ministries
- Plan, execute, and evaluate all discipleship ministries
- Recruit, train, support, and develop volunteers and leaders for discipleship ministries
- Create welcoming environments where people can build Christ-centered relationships
- Lead a discipleship group.
- Create a clear pathway to help people take next steps in their walk with Christ
- Work with the Mission/Outreach Committee to create opportunities for service projects, outreach events, and evangelism
- Collaborate with pastoral staff to provide a cohesive discipleship plan for the church
- Develop the ministry’s annual budget in cooperation with the pastoral staff
- Build Christ-centered relationships that invest in the spiritual lives of the people in the church
- Cultivate spiritual community among the congregation, fostering a place where people belong
- Pursue the unchurched or spiritually hungry by creating a culture of invitation, connection, and follow up
- Attend weekly church staff meetings and retreats and work collaboratively with the staff, volunteers, and members
- Be available for preaching, teaching, outreach and pastoral care as the need arises
- Assists the Senior Pastor as needed in preparing for and leading Worship
- Teaches and preaches on a periodic basis as needed.
- Perform other duties and tasks as requested or assigned by the Executive Pastor
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree is required. Seminary degree, enrollment, or vocational ministry calling is preferred - Experience &
Skills:
Previous experience in full-time ministry with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience leading ministry preferred. - Relationally gifted and able to disciple, mentor, and train staff/volunteers
- Strong communication skills
- Administrative and strategic leadership ability
Salary depends on education & ministry leadership experience.
