Methodist Health System seeks a Gastrointestinal Technician 2 to support GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a high-volume, patient-centered endoscopy environment. Responsibilities include preparing rooms and equipment, assisting physicians during endoscopy and related procedures, monitoring patient comfort and safety, and ensuring strict adherence to infection prevention and instrument reprocessing standards. The technician manages specimens, maintains accurate electronic documentation, and collaborates closely with nurses and physicians to support efficient patient flow.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including endoscopy and colonoscopy
  • Prepare procedure rooms, calibrate equipment, and ensure proper infection control and sterilization of instruments
  • Position and monitor patients during procedures, observing vital signs and comfort levels
  • Prepare, label, and handle specimens according to protocols and regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate patient and procedure documentation in electronic health records
  • Ensure readiness of supplies, troubleshoot basic equipment issues, and report malfunctions
  • Support patient education by explaining procedures and post-procedure instructions
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff to coordinate safe, efficient patient flow
  • Follow safety, compliance, and quality standards, including OSHA and infection prevention guidelines
  • Participate in ongoing training, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives
