Device Specialist - Bon Secours Cardiology, St. Francis Medical Center

Job Summary: The Cardiac Device Specialist performs interrogation, testing, interpretation and programming of Pacemakers and Automatic Internal Cardioverter Defibrillators (AICD). This role uses software (patient electronic medical records and device database) to enter patient data and provide reports for physicians and patients’ charts. It uses patient data to make recommendations regarding optimal programming for the patient.

Essential Functions
  • Interrogates devices (pacemakers, AICD) and interprets devices for basic threshold and intracardiac measurements; makes necessary program changes under the direction of the Electrophysiologist.
  • Manages remote device follow-up and schedules follow-up appointments with patients as appropriate based on data interpretation.
  • Manages the device database by entering interrogation data and scheduling follow-up appointments as appropriate based on data interpretation.
  • Completes the charge capture process in the electronic medical record for all patients seen in the device clinic and/or captured by remote device follow-ups.
  • Examines wounds post-device implant on initial visit of all post-op patients to ensure incision healing and communicates issues or problems with the Electrophysiologist.

Education
  • High School Diploma (required)
  • Associate’s degree (preferred)
Required Licensing & Certifications

None

Experience
  • 1 year of experience in cardiac device management (required)
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team
  • Ability to understand and follow directions of healthcare team
  • Identification of ECG rhythms and ability to monitor rhythms from multiple vendors
  • Interrogate pacemakers and defibrillators
  • Notify physician of critical findings
  • Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (e.g., falls, skin breakdown, environment of care)
Training
  • Basic EKG training (required)
  • Pacemaker, Tachycardia, Bradycardia, and Device Interpretation training (preferred)
