Crane Operator, w/ Concrete Experience
Location:
Regional, VA & MD (Mid Atlantic Region, primarily Maryland and Virginia). This position requires travel to project sites and regional travel within the Mid‑Atlantic area.
This safety‑sensitive position involves operating cranes and heavy equipment on construction sites with inherent hazards. Candidates must hold NCCCO certification, TLL, LBC, a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation. The role is subject to drug testing and other compliance policies associated with federal contracting.
Key Responsibilities- Operate cranes and heavy equipment, including hydraulic boom, friction truck, lattice boom crawler, and concrete bucket.
- Regulate speed and direction using controls per operator instructions.
- Observe load hookup and determine load safety; read and interpret load charts to maintain safe capacity.
- Direct placement of cribbing for outriggers and prepare crane for safe load operations.
- Perform preventive maintenance: clean, lubricate, and maintain crane and hoisting mechanisms.
- Inspect equipment daily, record defects and malfunctions in log.
- Set up and dismantle crane and associated rigging.
- Drive piles when required (experience desirable).
- Minimum 3 years experience operating cranes, heavy equipment, and hydraulic or friction cranes of 18–100 ton capacity.
- Experience with concrete pouring, clamming, hook‑work, and pile driving is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- NCCCO certification; TLL and LBC required.
- Basic reading and writing skills (HS Diploma or GED preferred).

- Subject to drug testing and compliance policies.
- Lift up to 30 lbs from ground level to waist level.
- Sit for 3–4 hours at time; climb in/out of equipment cab without assistance.
- Bend, squat, kneel, and crawl to perform maintenance and inspection tasks.
- Work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid weather.
