Overview

Job Description:

This position provides leadership for pharmacy services throughout Intermountain Health, including strategic planning, program growth and development, daily operational oversight, regulatory compliance, finance and budgeting, purchasing and receiving, quality management, medication safety, and cost-effective delivery of pharmaceutical care.

Scope

This is a system-wide leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Pharmacy Officer of Pharmacy Services. The position is responsible for all assigned aspects of pharmacy services throughout Intermountain Health.

Job Essentials
  • Responsible for the strategic vision, goals, and initiatives associated with an assigned portfolio of pharmacy services. Works with pharmacy directors and managers, operations officers, and executive leadership to achieve shared goals and full-scale integration.
  • Lead and develop direct reports and foster professionalism, continuous learning, and clinical excellence.
  • Oversee all aspects of medication management, including acquisition, prescriber ordering, preparation, dispensing, clinical management, monitoring, and disposal for assigned services.
  • Ensure operations are compliant with all State and Federal laws and Intermountain policies and procedures.
  • Serve on committees locally, regionally, and system-wide as a leader in medication management policies and processes within assigned domains.
  • Create and implement business objectives and metrics. Establish reporting systems and performance standards; educate and hold leaders accountable for operations, inventory, budgets, staffing, and workflows. Collaborate with Supply Chain Center to develop lean, standardized processes for central prescription fill and related functions.
  • Develop and update policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures for assigned operations.
  • Manage inventory effectively across all assigned operations.
  • Oversee third-party contracting to maximize appropriate reimbursement where applicable.
  • Set standards for service excellence and establish aggressive goals to improve the customer experience.
  • Ensure the medication-use process is evidence-based and compliant with regulations; maintain internal controls, redundancies, and tracking mechanisms.
  • Support the integrity of the 340B program, where applicable.
  • Ensure safe and efficient use of automation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve labor and product efficiencies; track key performance indicators and implement downtime procedures and contingency plans as needed.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory management; ensure supplier contractual obligations are met and take corrective action as needed.
  • Provide regular written communications to stakeholders about activities, benefits, challenges, and responses; establish reporting systems and update policies as needed.
  • Model professionalism and clinical excellence; ensure team competency operationally, clinically, and financially; develop retention strategies and provide effective leadership for direct and dotted-line reports.
  • Lead or participate in governance councils and committees and promote Intermountain Health educational programs.
  • Responsible for capital and operations budgeting processes.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy directors, managers, and leadership to ensure progress toward shared goals and integration.
  • Develop standardized, effective clinical services, including patient counseling; support medication therapy management, pharmacist support for clinics, immunizations, and transitions of care initiatives.
  • Develop patient engagement standards and pursue improvements in the outpatient patient/customer experience.
  • Work with physicians and leadership to identify opportunities to grow pharmaceutical care and prescription volume within assigned operations.
  • Organize patient assistance programs with inpatient services and Intermountain Health foundations.
  • Encourage participation in clinic and community health events to support service, care, and marketing efforts.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and an advanced degree (Masters) or a Pharm

D from an accredited institution. Degree verification required. Licensure to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, or Utah. Eight years of pharmacy operations management experience. Experience in roles requiring strong communication, planning, prioritization, and execution skills. Proven ability to lead strategic planning, ongoing business reviews, and manage complex projects. Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments. Demonstrated ability to balance clinical, regulatory, and financial goals and collaborate across all levels.

Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, email, and scheduling tools. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
