This position is accountable for purchasing both direct and indirect goods and services, ensuring that the company’s operational needs are met while optimizing price and quality. The products, equipment, and services require functional knowledge of the clinical and/or technical aspects of requested items. The position handles specialized purchasing processes and is a subject matter expert in assigned categories. The incumbent works and communicates directly with all levels of Intermountain Healthcare Caregivers and suppliers.

The following states are currently paused for sourcing new candidates or for new relocation requests for current caregivers:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Third Wednesday each month is a required onsite day along with other meetings as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Works directly with assigned service lines, suppliers, and product categories to provide world‑class purchasing service and solve problems related to the procure‑to‑pay process. Responsible for procurement of low‑to‑medium dollar/risk purchases, such as basic commodity products.
  • Serves as a valuable support resource and acts as an expert for assigned categories, contracts, and overall Intermountain purchasing policy.
  • Develops close working relationships with aligned category manager(s) to identify and implement cost, quality, and supply continuity improvements.
  • Responsible for proactive supply risk management plans for assigned categories and suppliers, including facilitating the identification and approval of substitutes to resolve potential disruption promptly and to ensure a continuous and secure supply of materials.
  • Acquires requested items by verifying submitted requisitions for accuracy, approval, compliance to contract, formulary, and policies, then generating and executing Purchase Orders. May require identification of sources for unique, low‑value purchasing, and minimal negotiation of pricing, terms and conditions for non‑contracted items. Manages stat/emergency orders, including proactive communication of delivery info to requesting Caregivers.
  • Ensures that all applicable reports are reviewed and maintained to minimize supply disruptions, facilitate on‑time payments, and meet targeted benchmarks for established Key Performance Indicators.
Skills
  • Effective communication and customer service skills, attention to finer details, sound decision

    Making, sense of urgency/timeliness, and negotiation interfacing with clinical and technical experts and external suppliers.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, and experience with ERP and P2P systems preferred.
  • Critical thinking, ability to analyze problems, and recommend and implement solutions.
  • Business acumen, intellectual curiosity, and creative thinking.
Qualifications
  • Maintain professional license where necessary (e.g., pharmacy buyers required to maintain a pharmacy tech license).
  • Experience in a role requiring attention to detail, sound decision making, sense of urgency/timeliness, and negotiation skills working with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced and changing environment while handling multiple deadlines and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of demonstrated experience in a role requiring effective communication and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer, phone, and cable set‑up and use.
