TRAX Mechanic​/Technician Apprentice - Midvale

Job Summary

Participates in related technical instruction and attends classroom instruction as required and passes written and hands‑on tests. This is a competency‑based program. Competency in the following 12 modules must be demonstrated within the time allotted:
Preventative Maintenance, Electrical, Brakes, Couplers, Trucks, HVAC, Doors and Ramps, Propulsion, Power Distribution, Car Body, Communications, Vehicle Control Systems. Perform manual tasks under supervision as needed. Assist advanced‑skill employees in complex repairs and component rebuild using hand and power tools as directed. Performs preventative maintenance inspections and associated repairs. Performs other related duties as assigned. See the Collective Bargaining Agreement for details.

• Able to pass both an aptitude and standardized tests determined by UTA.
• Have required tools prior to the start of paid training.
• Able to acquire and maintain a DOT card.
• Have a valid Utah driver’s license.
• Be a safe driver with no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years.
• Have no violations of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
• Have a 2‑year degree in a related field OR a military MOS in a related field OR one year of related technical school AND one year of related experience OR 6 months UTA experience (TVT/Helper level).

Prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs constantly and over 51 lbs occasionally. Able to crawl, bend, twist, balance, and reach in tight and awkward positions.

8:00pm – 6:30am Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday off; 8:00pm – 6:30am Sunday, Monday & Tuesday off; 8:00pm – 6:30am Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday off. Subject to change during training. Shift & days off subject to change.

$27.13 – $31.13 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential. Four‑year wage progression. Apprentice receives an additional $.30 per hour each six months as an Apprentice up to the top Apprentice rate beginning six months after the start of the apprenticeship program. Upon graduation, apprentices advance to the Journeyist classification and wage (current $36.82 per hour).
