JOB DESCRIPTION:
HEATING, VENTILATION, AIR-CONDITIONING, REFRIGERATION TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR Position Summary
This position will provide instruction in Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology. The instructor will develop and maintain a current, relevant curriculum while providing instruction to students through a variety of engaging, real-world strategies. The instructor will prepare students to take and pass industry certifications required for successful employment.
Qualification Requirements- Must meet Career Tech requirements to hold or qualify for a Standard or Provisional Career Technology Teaching Certificate in the appropriate area.
- Three years of experience either teaching or working in the HVACR field.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Knowledge of Career Technical Education preferred.
- Proficient computer skills are required.
- Instructs students through a variety of methods (i.e., modeling, visuals, hands‑on activities, work‑based learning, demonstrations, thematic instruction) and uses audio/visual aids, technology, and other materials to supplement presentations.
- Develops and prepares program curriculum, objectives, course outlines, lesson plans, assignments, projects, and evaluation instruments reflective of the industry. All curriculum follows guidelines or requirements set forth by the Oklahoma Dept. of Career Tech, the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board, and the school district.
- Attends and keeps current with industry training in specialty areas and implements relevant skills in the classroom environment. Establishes and maintains an advisory committee including industry professionals and other essential stakeholders.
- Objectively administers and evaluates assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests to determine student progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction as needed. Records student grades in student information management applications. Communicates issues (via written, verbal, and in‑person) and progress reports to parents.
- Clearly communicates curriculum and information to various stakeholders in person or via email, online Learning Management System (LMS), online Student Information System (SIS), and/or video conferencing software.
- Manages the classroom effectively, sets high expectations, and monitors students at all times. Assists students in developing employability skills and prepares them for employment upon program completion.
- Prepares all program completers for industry certification and state competency tests. Identifies students who are not meeting competencies and initiates an improvement plan.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, teacher training workshops, advisory committee meetings, student recruiting/promotional school events, and parent/teacher conferences. Participates in IEP/504 meetings when appropriate and adapts lessons to meet the needs of all students, including those with special needs.
- Performs duties related to participating in and sponsoring Career Tech student organization events and competitions, assisting students in job placement, and providing work‑based learning opportunities and supervision.
- Additional duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or above.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule, or blueprint form.
