Overview
The City of Midwest City is accepting applications for a Planner II or Planner III in the Planning & Zoning Department. The Planner II incumbent is significantly involved in a variety of plan review and long‑range planning and development efforts of the city. The incumbent can perform professional planning work of moderate difficulty with limited supervision and has a well‑developed knowledge of planning principles and practices.
Depending on qualifications, this position may be filled as a Planner III. A Planner III incumbent requires a higher level of education, experience, and certification and is assigned additional duties and responsibilities. A Planner III incumbent can perform professional planning work of high complexity and variety with limited supervision, leading and/or being significantly involved in complex planning assignments requiring independence and judgment.
- Perform professional planning work of moderate difficulty (Planner II).
- Conduct plan review and long‑range planning and development tasks for the city.
- Lead or be significantly involved in complex planning assignments requiring independence and judgment (Planner III).
- Execute professional planning work of high complexity and variety with limited supervision (Planner III).
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a related field and 4 or more years of professional planning experience (Planner II). AICP required within 4 years of employment; current AICP preferred.
- Master’s degree in planning, public administration, or a related field and five or more years of professional planning experience (Planner III). AICP required; professional experience in project management preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred for Planner II and can replace up to 2 years of required professional experience.
- Valid Oklahoma driver license and must be insurable.
Grade L for Planner II: $63,140 - $70,789 per year with benefits. Grade O for Planner III: $84,267 - $94,476 per year with benefits.
