POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care and health support services to students in the school setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act. The LPN supports student health, safety, and access to education by implementing individualized healthcare plans, administering medications and treatments, responding to health emergencies, maintaining health records, and collaborating with school personnel, healthcare providers, and families.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Current Oklahoma Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
- Current CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Knowledge of the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act and school nursing standards.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
- Ability to safely perform medication administration and specialized health procedures.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records, student information systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
- Experience working in pediatrics, public health, home health, or school nursing.
- Associate degree in nursing or related healthcare field.
- Experience with students requiring specialized healthcare services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to develop appropriate individual educational programs (IEP).
- Provide direct nursing care to students under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Give medications, tube feedings, and other skilled nursing duties following physician orders and as scheduled on an Individual Health Plan (IHP).
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions and report changes in condition to the supervising RN.
- Provide first aid and nursing assessment for ill or injured students and staff.
- Give treatments such as suctioning following physician orders and as scheduled on an IHP.
- Chart tasks, medications, etc., in a timely manner and using proper forms.
- Collaborate with site RN and District Health Coordinator regarding health-related issues of students.
- Additional duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR
SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.
