Position: Heavy Equip Mechanic (TRACKED VEH) Fort Sill, OK Posted today

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Army tactical and combat vehicles, heavy equipment, material handling equipment (MHE), power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench digging machines, conveyers, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools, diesel motors and generators, dump trucks, backhoes, pay loaders, graders, snow equipment, pumps, compressors, lifts, fuel dispensing systems, small engine, commercial grade lawn equipment, ski lifts, and vehicle lifts.

Responsibilities
  • Equipment Inspection & Maintenance:
  • Perform technical inspections on heavy equipment, tactical tracked vehicles, and MHE.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system faults.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with Army TMs, DA PAM 750-8, and AR 750-1.
  • Ensure compliance with Army safety standards and environmental regulations when servicing equipment.
  • Repair & Servicing:
  • Perform repairs and adjustments on engines, transmissions, drive trains, brakes, steering, suspension, and hydraulic systems.
  • Service and maintain MHE (e.g., forklifts, cranes, loaders, rough terrain equipment).
  • Conduct vehicle services (PMCS, lubrication, part replacement) to maintain serviceability.
  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
  • Repair light, medium and heavy equipment and vehicles as well as small tractor type equipment, skid steers and handheld equipment and mowers supporting ground maintenance operations.
  • Ensure work orders when complete are properly filled out and returned to work management.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Follow all OSHA, Army, and company safety standards during maintenance operations.
  • Use proper PPE, tools, and test equipment when working on Army vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with HAZMAT handling, storage, and disposal requirements.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a mechanic on military or heavy equipment.
  • U.S. Army maintenance standards and technical manuals.
  • Preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS).
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret Army TMs, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate MHE and obtain Army licensing (OF 346) as required.
  • Possess a current and valid State driver's license.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 investigation and obtain and maintain a CAC.
Desired

Qualifications:
  • Technical training in heavy equipment or military maintenance and/or tracked vehicles preferred.
  • Prior U.S. Army or contractor experience with tactical vehicles, combat systems, or MHE equipment.
  • Army logistics systems such as GCSS-Army
  • Commercial driver's license for the type of vehicle being operated.
  • Some computer skills.
Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
