The Mobile Diesel Technician LevelII performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light, and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Advanced diagnostics and repairs are performed under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transaxles, transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, and related components.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges; conduct road tests to verify proper operation.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions; use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance and resolving problems.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time efficiently.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders (“RO”) using an iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application; upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly.
- Operate independently, manage daily schedules, and maintain a high level of productivity while meeting standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as required for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams via e‑mail or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High School Diploma or GED and at least 3years of related experience. A higher degree or certification may replace experience.
- Must possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
- Must obtain an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18months.
- Must complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or provide a valid DOT medical card with at least 4months remaining.
- Must be at least 21years old and hold a valid state driver’s license; able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Experience in automotive service and troubleshooting in a mobile or field environment is preferred.
- ASE T8 (PMI) – required within 18months
