Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical & Controls Specialist to join our maintenance team. This hands‑on role is responsible for installing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical, controls, and automation systems throughout our meat processing facility. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, a systematic approach to problem‑solving, and a commitment to keeping our operations running safely, hygienically, and efficiently in a fast‑paced, USDA‑regulated production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Program, configure, and maintain PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI systems to support production operations
- Design, build, wire, and troubleshoot industrial electrical control panels in accordance with NEC and facility standards
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults in motors, drives, sensors, instrumentation, and other industrial equipment
- Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on industrial machinery including conveyors, pumps, compressors, and processing equipment
- Commission new equipment and control systems, including startup verification, I/O testing, and documentation
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and controls systems to minimize unplanned downtime
- Read, interpret, and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs
- Work with VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), servo systems, and other motion control devices
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to identify and implement process improvements
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment documentation
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards including NFPA 70E (arc flash) and OSHA lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Respond to emergency breakdowns on a priority basis, including on-call availability as needed
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field (strongly preferred)
- Formal training or coursework in PLC programming or industrial automation
- Certification in NFPA 70E electrical safety or equivalent
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Ability to work in a meat processing plant environment, including exposure to cold/wet conditions, high-pressure washdown areas, noise, and moving equipment
- Must follow USDA, HACCP, and food safety/sanitation protocols when working in or around processing areas
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces with proper training and PPE
- May require rotating shifts, overtime, or on-call availability to support operations
