DISTRICT 8 – FLEET SPECIALIST I, II, or IIIBasic Purpose Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving mechanical/technical work in the repair and maintenance of automobile, truck, boat, heavy equipment, or other engines or motors and related assemblies or in the supervision/management of a fleet maintenance or repair facility.

Typical Functions The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit and organization, but may include the following:

Perform major and minor preventative maintenance service on state vehicles and equipment;
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic problems; operate diagnostic tools and computer software; weld and fabricate.

Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work environment; inspect and test equipment for safety and proper working order.

Complete paperwork and assist in writing specifications; maintain workplace inventory; order parts and supplies to maintain an inventory of parts.

Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical personnel which may include employees and customers on an as-required basis while performing roadside assistance, towing needs, and rollback services.

Performs duties of supervisor as directed; report to work outside of normal working hours for emergency operations
