POSITION:
Middle School STEM Teacher (Grades 5-8)

LOCATION:

Milan Middle School (Milan, MI 48160) STARTING DATE:
August 25, 2026 PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Inspired to lead student learning through engaging, hands‑on lessons and exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as well as career pathways.
  • Strong in classroom management techniques, a student‑centered approach, and the ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
  • Committed to inclusive practices and supporting the success of all learners by recognizing and valuing the diverse backgrounds of students and families.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop the STEM elective program in conjunction with the building principal and the curriculum director.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials appropriate for each grade level.
  • Work with administrators, colleagues, school based staff, students and parents to use diagnostic data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of the students.
  • Collaborate and work with classroom teachers to implement STEM content and instructional strategies in classrooms.
  • Model best practice instruction for colleagues and assist in the analysis and interpretation of assessment results.
  • Provide feedback to parents on student learning and provide opportunities to support and educate families.
  • Continue personal professional development.
  • Establish and maintain an effective and positive learning environment.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to determine student growth.
  • Incorporate technology and diverse teaching strategies to meet varied learning styles and needs.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:
  • Certified with the State of Michigan to teach with grade bands of K-8, 6-12, or 5-9, preferably also certified in Mathematics or Science.
  • Experience in middle school instruction.
  • Experience in evaluating assessments for use in application to instruction.
  • Experience and knowledge of best instructional practices in the area of middle school science and/or math education.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process.
  • Knowledge of NWEA, M-Step, Common Core Standards and Common Assessments.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends and research surrounding student achievement.
  • Skilled in using spreadsheets for data entry and interpretation.
  • Strong desire to work with all students in grades 5-8.
  • Has a proven track record of promoting social justice and creating and maintaining equitable educational systems.
LANGUAGE

SKILLS:
  • Ability to explain and evaluate appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret information including periodicals and professional journals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of educators, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to write/review/interpret lesson plans, IEPs, and other related correspondence.
  • Ability to direct the activities of others to execute student goals.
TECHNICAL

SKILLS:
  • Ability to integrate technology into the everyday workflow as necessary.
  • Ability to utilize District technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district.
  • Ability to use computer technology for research, data management, communications, and instruction.
  • Ability to use a personal computer (PC or MAC) in a networked environment to utilize the Internet and other electronic communication mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite (word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software) is required.
MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS:
  • Ability to apply the concepts of basic math consistent with the duties of this position.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Highly proficient in subject areas of reasoning, problem solving, organizational dynamics, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
INTERPERSONAL

SKILLS:
  • Ability to build rapport with others and to serve a diverse community.
