POSITION:
High School Principal
LOCATION:Milan High School
PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:Milan Area Schools seeks a collaborative, student-centered leader who demonstrates the following qualities:

- Instructional Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Serve as the instructional leader of Milan High School and promote a clear, shared vision for teaching and learning.
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of instructional programs, curriculum, assessment, and professional learning.
- Lead the school’s continuous improvement and MTSS processes in alignment with district priorities.
- Use academic, behavioral, attendance, perception, and implementation data to establish goals, monitor progress, identify inequities, and adjust supports.
- Strengthen Tier 1 academic, behavioral, and social-emotional practices and support the development of effective intervention systems.
- Work with the Building Leadership Team and the District MTSS and Continuous Improvement Team to develop and monitor a building-specific goal aligned with district priorities.
- Provide teachers with meaningful feedback, coaching, and professional learning that strengthen instructional practice and student outcomes.
- School Culture, Student Support, and Community Engagement
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment for students and staff.
- Develop and implement a fair and effective student code of conduct consistent with district guiding principles, board policy, and applicable law.
- Promote student voice, belonging, leadership, and engagement in the life of the school.
- Build strong, responsive partnerships with families, community organizations, postsecondary institutions, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure effective systems of support for students, including collaboration with special education, counseling, social work, intervention, and other student-services staff.
- Foster a culture of exceptional service, respect, and shared responsibility throughout the school community.
- Staff and Leadership Development
- Lead, support, and develop the school’s administrative team, including the assistant principal.
- Supervise, evaluate, coach, and support certified and non-certified staff in accordance with district procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Build staff leadership capacity through effective teams, shared decision-making, meaningful delegation, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Assist with staffing, assignment, hiring, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.
- Participate actively in district leadership, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making.
- High School Programming and Operations
- Oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the school, including scheduling, budgeting, facilities, safety, student supervision, activities, athletics, and resource allocation.
- Support a comprehensive secondary program that prepares students for graduation, college, careers, and community life, including CTE, advanced coursework, intervention, and work-based or postsecondary learning opportunities.
- Coordinate school safety and emergency preparedness practices in collaboration with district personnel and community partners.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, including special education requirements; board policies; administrative regulations; and employee agreements.
- Carry out other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position and as assigned by the superintendent or assistant superintendent.
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
- Current Michigan Administrative Certification
- Current Michigan Teacher Certification
