Job Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RN utilizes the nursing process with technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.

Shift Details

Part time (24 budgeted hours) day shift with some on‑call required.

Location

Holy Rosary Surgical Services, Holy Rosary Hospital, Miles City, Montana.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of nursing experience in an acute care setting strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Certification as appropriate for unit or service preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Registered Nurse preferred.
Scope Pre‑Operative
  • Demonstrates understanding of the role of the circulating nurse.
  • Prepares the operating room ahead of time and ensures equipment and instruments are ready for scheduled cases.
Intra‑Operative
  • Demonstrates aseptic technique when opening sterile packaging and demonstrates awareness of the sterile field parameters.
  • Identifies and handles specimens according to policy.
  • Provides direct support to the surgical team, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, and ensures that required items are delivered promptly.
  • Assists in positioning the patient for the surgical procedure, follows positioning guidelines, and uses appropriate positioning devices.
  • Completes surgical site preparation.
  • Uses personal protective equipment appropriately and adheres to workplace health and safety guidelines.
  • Ensures that the Universal Protocol (Time Out) is initiated for each procedure and that all perioperative team members participate.
  • Conducts sponge, sharp, and instrument counts per policy.
  • Monitors traffic flow and noise within the operating room and supports the needs of the clinical team.
Post‑Operative
  • Assists anesthesia with patient transport and stays with the patient until the recovery RN is able to take over care.
  • Helps clean the operating room and set up for the next case.
  • Puts away supplies, instruments, and restocks.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice is required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • A Registered Nurse with an AS‑DN degree must complete a BSN degree within four (4) years from date of hire unless the RN has a minimum of fifteen (15) years of proven continuous RN experience in an acute care setting. Failure to obtain a BSN degree within the timeframe may result in suspension or termination of employment. Any RN who takes legally protected leave during the four‑year period may have the period extended by a comparable amount of time.

Duties and Physical Demands
  • Perform work on site during scheduled business hours or shifts, including nights and/or weekends as required.
  • Read and interpret information, labels, and monitor patient needs; communicate verbally with providers, patients, and visitors during emergency situations.
  • Manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation.
  • Lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, often up to heavy weights.
  • Walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies.
  • May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords on the floor.
Compensation

Hourly rate: $34.11 – $51.73, dependent upon experience.
