Certified Nursing Assistant

The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting nursing personnel in providing resident care within the scope of their certification and training. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The associate is expected to demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values. Support for organizational goals and direction of quality improvement processes is essential.

Essential duties include providing all activities of daily living (ADL) care to patients. This includes oral hygiene, grooming, personal hygiene, dressing, bathing, range of motion exercises, ambulation, and dining support. Care is delivered according to each patient's individual care plan. Residents' dignity and privacy are to be respected at all times. Care should be provided with kindness and compassion, with attention to detail and recognition of individual resident needs.

Choices with care should be offered to encourage patients to maintain independence whenever possible. Rights of residents must be adhered to during care provision and communication. Prompt response to call lights is required. Changes in patients' conditions should be communicated to the staff nurse in a timely manner. Charting and documentation must be completed according to policies and procedures. Interaction with the interdisciplinary team is necessary to communicate resident preferences, needs, and details to establish an individualized care plan.

Collaboration with other disciplines is important to promote patient participation in activities of interest. Maintenance of cleanliness for wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment is mandatory. Any non-working or unsafe equipment or facility fixtures must be reported to maintenance. All required safety equipment must be used appropriately, including gait belts, goggles, lifts, and transfer boards.
