About Securityplus Federal Credit Union:

Since 1938, Securityplus Federal Credit Union has proudly served our members and communities as a not-for-profit financial institution. Our mission is to empower people with financial security, providing the tools, resources, and guidance they need to reach their goals with confidence.

Guided by our CARES values of Collaboration, Agility, Respect, Excellence, and Spirit, we create meaningful connections and deliver exceptional service in everything we do. We believe in doing what is right for our members, supporting one another as a team, and making a positive impact that extends far beyond our branches.

Our vision is to be our members' first choice by providing experiences that inspire trust, confidence, and long-term relationships. When you join Securityplus, you become part of a purpose-driven team that believes in service, growth, and the power of community.

About this Role:

This position is open to candidates working hybrid from our Baltimore area offices or fully remote. We are glad to consider strong candidates in either arrangement.

The Vice President, Controller owns the integrity of everything Securityplus reports about its financial position. You will lead the accounting function, run a disciplined close, certify our regulatory filings, and serve as a trusted financial voice on the senior management team and in front of the Board of Directors.

This is a hands-on leadership seat, not a review and sign one. The best people in this role are precise without being slow, explain numbers clearly to colleagues who do not live in them, and build an accounting team that can be trusted to get it right the first time. If you bring deep financial institution accounting experience and the judgment to know what matters, we would love to hear from you.

Requirements

In this full-time exempt role, you'll be responsible for:
Own the Numbers and the Close

You will direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement production and own general ledger governance across all reporting units, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, account certifications, and attestations. You will run a disciplined month-end and year-end close with clear calendars, ownership, and review standards, and oversee daily balancing, accounts payable, fixed assets, and cash management.

Turn Results into Insight

Producing accurate numbers is the floor, not the finish line. You will give the CFO and executive leadership timely insight into financial performance, emerging trends, risks, and opportunities, and translate what the results show into recommendations leaders can act on. Branch, product, and member profitability analysis sits here too.

Keep Regulatory Reporting and Audit Readiness Strong

You will prepare, review, and certify the NCUA 5300 Call Report, IRS 945, and related filings, backed by documentation that holds up to scrutiny. In collaboration with the Supervisory Committee, you will serve as a financial liaison with our external CPA firm, examiners, and internal audit. When findings come up, you will drive them to sustainable resolution by identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and establishing controls that prevent recurrence.

Support

Treasury, Investments, and ALM

You will oversee accounting for the investment portfolio, borrowings, correspondent banking relationships, cash positions, and reserves, and produce ALM, liquidity, and interest rate risk reporting in support of the CFO, who retains executive ownership of liquidity, capital, and balance sheet strategy. You will work alongside executives and Board members on the Asset Liability Management Committee (ALCO), providing updates on the financial position, margin, and yield performance of the Credit Union, and you will administer CECL accounting with Lending and Risk Management.

Run

the Budget and Forecast Process

You will lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process under the direction of the CFO, coordinating assumptions, timelines, departmental submissions, analysis, and reporting, and produce the projections, variance analysis, and scenario modeling that inform strategic, pricing, and capital decisions.

Strengthen Controls and Systems

You will develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures, design and monitor internal controls over financial reporting, and serve as the accounting owner for core, general ledger, reconciliation, and financial reporting systems, including conversions and upgrades. You will keep looking for automation that shortens the close and strengthens audit readiness.

Build a High-Performing Accounting Function

This is about more than managing the team you inherit. You will build and sustain a high-performing accounting function with clear roles, measurable expectations, appropriate segregation of duties, cross-training, individual development plans, and succession readiness, and you will contribute as a member of the senior management team to strategy and planning across the Credit…
