Under the general direction and supervision of the Program Chair, Automotive Program, the Adjunct Automotive Technology instructor is responsible for instructing students in various Automotive courses (as needed), developing, and updating the program courses in a classroom/laboratory environment. The position is also responsible for maintaining lab equipment, advising students, and working with program and College teams. This is a part‑time, temporary position.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide Student Instruction in Program Courses as Assigned
- Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses
- Maintain and Upgrade Automotive Classroom/Laboratory Instructional Facilities and Equipment
- Complete and Maintain Program and Student Records
- Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area
- Participate in College and Program Activities and Teams
- Act as Student and Technical Advisor for the Automotive Program
- Schedule Work – Live Shop Projects
- Handle Telephone Calls and Automotive Customers
- Stress Safety
- Perform Other College and Program Duties as Assigned
Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction and the Vice President of Instruction.

Marginal FunctionsSkills and Abilities
- Possess current knowledge and work experience in the Automotive field.
- Ability to teach theory and operation in the assigned area in one or more of the following areas:
Engine Repair, Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles, Manual Transmissions/Drive Trains, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance. - The ability and experience in diagnosing and repairing problems associated with the automobile in the area of instruction.
- Minimum of two years current work experience in the Automotive field (related to the instructional assignment) and a working knowledge of other courses in the Automotive field.
- The ability to operate tools and test equipment used in the assigned area of instruction.
- Be able to demonstrate all types of processes required of an Automotive technician for the particular courses assigned to teach.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication competencies necessary to conduct classroom and laboratory instruction in working with a diverse student population.
- Be able to maintain a classroom/lab environment that is conducive to learning including the ability to maintain proper classroom order.
