Job DescriptionThe CNC Programmer will create machining programs for CNC machines that will provide quality parts in the minimum amount of time and cost. Machining will include 3, 4, and 5 axis, vertical and horizontal. Limited amounts of turning and wire EDM. The programmer will analyze blueprints, electronic files, specifications, proposals, and other documentation. This position supports a job shop environment with short runs and high quality components for the aerospace industry.
Position RequirementsEssential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create clean and concise G‑code machining programs for CNC machines using Master Cam 2020 or newer.
- Plan, select tools, design machining fixtures, choose feeds and speeds, program operations, and verify tool‑paths to achieve desired quality at optimized cost, consistent with company policies.
- Prepare setup sheets with tool lists for N/C programs.
- Design fixturing for holding parts during machining operations.
- Design tooling for forming parts by rubber form, press brake, or hammer form.
- Assist program managers and M.E.’s with tool selection and processes for machining parts.
- Ensure programs and associated documentation are saved per procedures and instructions.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
- Proficient in reading drawings, technical instructions, and thorough knowledge of GD&T.
- Minimum 5 years hands‑on shop experience in a machine shop environment.
- Minimum 3 years CNC programming experience on complex precision parts and tooling for aerospace and other advanced industries.
- Proficient with Master Cam 2020 and above.
- Proficient with Solid Works software.
- Thorough knowledge of shop math and measuring techniques.
- High School Diploma plus education in trade schools and/or certified training in programming software.
- Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply common sense and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to handle problems involving limited variables in manufacturing processes.
- Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software proficiency.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience working with aerospace materials and tolerances. Programming requirements will cover a wide variety of equipment including CNC vertical and horizontal, CNC turning, wire EDM, laser, and water jet equipment. Materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium. This position supports a job shop environment with short runs and high quality components for the aerospace industry.
- Handle multiple priorities, interruptions, and work comfortably in an environment with very short deadlines.
