Senior CNC Mill Set Up Technician

Work Setting: 100% onsite in a precision CNC manufacturing environment

Schedule: First shift, Monday–Friday; most work is performed approximately 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with some schedule flexibility available

Compensation: Approximately $35.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience, technical capability, and overall fit

Overtime: Available, generally on a voluntary basis

A well-established precision manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior CNC Mill Set Up Technician to serve as a highly experienced, hands‑on technical resource within its CNC milling operation in Milford, CT.

This role is responsible for setting up, operating, programming, and troubleshooting 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis vertical CNC milling machines used to produce high‑precision components for aerospace, defense, medical, and other advanced manufacturing applications. The position requires someone who can combine strong machining expertise with professionalism, reliability, and the ability to support other machinists on the shop floor.

This is not a traditional supervisory role. The Senior CNC Mill Set Up Technician will remain actively involved with the machines while serving as a technical example and resource for others, helping improve setup quality, troubleshooting, workflow, and overall shop‑floor execution.

• Set up and operate 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis vertical CNC milling machines
• Write, edit, and adjust CNC programs using G-code
• Program and work with positional indexers
• Troubleshoot machining, setup, tooling, and production issues
• Work with Fanuc controls and potentially other CNC control environments
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
• Use precision measuring instruments and gages to verify first‑piece and production dimensions
• Work closely with manufacturing engineers and quality personnel to ensure machines and processes are operating correctly
• Support efficient workflows between planning, engineering, quality, and the shop floor
• Help other machinists troubleshoot difficult setups and machining challenges
• Maintain high standards for accuracy, precision, workmanship, and quality
• Serve as a positive technical example for professionalism, accountability, and shop‑floor behavior
• Support the quality requirements associated with aerospace, defense, medical, and other precision‑manufacturing applications

• Minimum of approximately 5 years of CNC milling setup experience
• Strong hands‑on ability to set up and run 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis vertical CNC milling machines
• Ability to write, edit, or adjust CNC programs using G-code
• Experience programming and working with positional indexers
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Strong proficiency with precision measuring instruments and gages
• Ability to verify both first‑piece and ongoing production dimensions
• Strong machining and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work effectively with manufacturing engineers and quality teams
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and precision
• Reliable attendance and a professional, team‑oriented approach
• Ability to work onsite in Milford, CT on first shift

• Strong experience with 5-axis CNC milling
• Experience with Fanuc controls
• Working knowledge of GD&T
• Aerospace, defense, medical, semiconductor, or other high‑precision machining experience
• Experience with in a small CNC shop, job shop, or high‑mix precision manufacturing environment
• Previous senior machinist, lead machinist, or technical floor‑support experience
• Experience helping less‑experienced machinists improve setups or troubleshoot production issues
