Job SummaryThe Geological Technician / Blast Hole Sampler is a dual‑role position supporting both the Geology and Mine Operations teams by collecting, preparing, and logging blast hole samples and assisting with geological fieldwork and data collection. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in the mining or geosciences field and looking to gain hands‑on experience in both production support and geologic investigations.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities Blast Hole Sampling Duties
- Collect and label blast hole cuttings and samples during production drilling.
- Perform sample preparation tasks including drying, splitting, and packaging.
- Accurately record and track sample data for use in grade control and production planning.
- Ensure proper sampling techniques and quality control measures are followed.
- Safely operate sampling tools and equipment in an active mine environment.
- Assist geologists with field mapping, rock identification, and structural measurements.
- Support core logging, chip sampling, and database entry.
- Conduct field and lab work including data entry, sample processing, and inventory management.
- Maintain sampling and field equipment in good working condition.
- Follow all site safety protocols and environmental procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Customer service and vendor relations experience.
- Time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
- High level of ethics and confidentiality.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in geology, mining, or a related field is a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Willingness to learn technical tasks and follow established procedures.
- Physically fit and able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work EnvironmentThis role rotates between a professional office setting and an outdoor active mining environment. This position requires regular interaction with employees, contractors and visitors.
Physical Demands- Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands for tasks such as data entry and document handling.
- Regularly required to walk on uneven ground in all weather conditions.
Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or lift up to 50 pounds. - Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Full‑time position (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
- Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs.
No travel is expected for this position.
