Position Summary
The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT), is seeking a qualified Transportation Maintainer 2 (DOT Highway Electrical Technician) to perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of traffic lights and highway illumination within District 2 Milford Electrical Facility. Upon successful completion of a 2‑year training period, the incumbent may be promoted to the target class of Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical).
Position Highlights- Monday – Friday, full time, 40 hours per week
- First shift, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
- Perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of traffic signals and highway lighting.
- Operate and maintain bucket trucks for high‑level work, including high‑voltage repairs.
- Respond to emergency duty assignments, including snow and ice removal, winter overtime from November 1 through April 30, and storm events requiring extended on‑site presence.
- Work at heights on highways and secondary roads, ensuring safety and compliance with DOT policies.
- Assist with reporting, radio monitoring, and coordination of emergency responses at state‑owned facilities.
- Perform related duties as assigned in construction, maintenance, and mechanical repair activities.
- Formal electrical education with proof of certification and at least two (2) years of experience in the electrical field.
- Current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank endorsement (Class A or B) and a valid Medical Examiner’s Card (MEC).
- Must be willing to accept emergency duty assignments, including working at heights and high‑voltage repairs.
- Must reside within 30 miles of the posted job location.
- Completion of a pre‑employment physical and respirator fit test is required.
- Accredited electrical training program with certification.
- At least two (2) years of working experience in the electrical field.
- Experience working with heights in a bucket truck and high‑voltage repairs.
- Experience wiring basic electrical circuits and reading basic blueprints.
