Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the health care team.
As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.

** UMass Memorial Health - Milford Regional Medical Center (UMMH-MRMC) is a full-service, community and regional teaching hospital, with 145 beds, providing acute-care serving a region of 20-plus towns. Our student nursing assistant staff provide personalized patient care in a warm and caring environment while honing their own clinical skills.

The Student Nurse Aide (SNA) is responsible for providing patient care under the direction/supervision of a Registered Nurse.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1.  Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patient/s. Examples, but not limited to, changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.  
2.  Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.  
3.  Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.  
4.  Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.  
5.  Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.

** High school diploma or GED. Also, currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and graduating in either 2027 or 2028.  Preference will be given to students attending local colleges who could potentially work as SNAs for two consecutive summers, as well as school breaks.

** If not currently certified, CPR/BLS is required within 30-days of hire

* Experience:

** Must have completed one Med/Surg clinical rotation.
** We anticipate having openings in the following departments:
Emergency Department, Med/Surg, Short-stay, Medical Oncology, Cardiac, Orthopedics/Surgical, Endoscopy, PACU, ICU, Maternity, and the Float Pool.*
* ** Program Requirements:
** New SNAs will be required to attend orientation
** May 18th from 8:30a-4:00p (Virtual)**,
** May 19th 8a-4:30p, and May 20th 8a-4:30p
** SNA’s must be able to work a minimum of 24 hrs per week during the summer
