Position: Director of Nursing / School Nurse
Location: Shining Star Early Childhood Center, Milford, Massachusetts
Schedule: school year
Salary: Per Teachers’ Contract
Starting Date: July 1, 2026 (plus two mentoring days before the start of school)
Position Type: Full-time
Qualifications- Current Massachusetts RN license
- DESE licensed as a school nurse
- Bachelor in Science in nursing (MSN preferred)
- At least 3-5 years of school nursing experience
- NCSN certification (preferred)
- Knowledge of comprehensive school health and public health issues
- Previous leadership/supervisory experience preferred
- CPR/AED BLS certified
- Experience with electronic health record software, SNAP (preferred)
- Shining Star Nurse – Serve as full‑time School Nurse for Shining Star Early Childhood Center: office visits, medication administration, health care plans, immunization compliance, vision screening, registration record review, staff training (Epi Pen), consulting with teaching staff and Director on health‑related issues, maintaining student health records, attending IEP/504 meetings.
- Director of Nursing – Provide oversight and clinical consultation to the Milford Public Schools nursing staff; arrange nursing coverage for staff absences, field trips, and supplemental coverage; participate in hiring and orientation of new nursing staff and substitutes; conduct staff meetings and arrange professional development; submit weekly substitute timesheet to payroll.
- Collaborate with DPH, local Board of Health (BOH), school physician, staff and administration on district and public health issues; develop and implement health procedures and policies; chair district Wellness Advisory Committee; assist in coordination of vaccine clinic for students lacking health insurance.
- Manage and administer the district health services department budget; prepare and present annual budget proposal; oversee medical record compliance and electronic software; submit state‑mandated reports; register with DPH for epinephrine authorization; apply for CLIA waiver every two years; arrange standing orders for school physician.
- Provide consultation to family registration center and act as liaison to extended school day and summer camp programs.
- Assist nurses with scheduling mandated school‑based health screenings; submit annual BMI screening report; coordinate SBIRT screening data.
- Oversee School‑Based Medicaid Reimbursement program; provide SNAP training; coordinate with PSNI SNAP, district vendor, and coordinator.
- Provide epinephrine training to bus drivers and orient new staff to the Medical Awareness Policy; coordinate bi‑annual CPR training.
- Communicate with principals and nurses to update DESE Medical Emergency Plans every three years.
- Maintain professional knowledge; attend professional development; become a member of National Association of School Nursing; share information; forward DPH emails.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by Superintendent.
