The Registered Nurse's responsibilities in Radiation Oncology include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a complex patient population. The RN provides patient and family education, psychosocial and emotional support, and functions as a member of a multidisciplinary care team. This role requires clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of clinical research principles.

Major Responsibilities:
- Implements the nursing process: assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care.
- Administers medications and performs procedures safely and efficiently.
- Educates patients and families about disease, treatment, and care plans.
- Responds to emergencies and maintains BLS certification.
- Identifies and refers to appropriate community resources.
- Complies with professional nursing standards and licensure requirements.

- Establishes rapport with patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrates compassion, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
- Provides age-specific care and support.
Environment of Care:
- Monitors and maintains a safe care environment.
- Complies with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
Unit and Institutional Contribution:
- Participates in setting and achieving unit and departmental goals.
- Engages in committees, initiatives, and quality improvement projects.
- Supports research activities and demonstrates flexibility in responsibilities.

Collaboration:
- Works collaboratively with peers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Delegates appropriately and supervises assistive personnel.
- Functions as charge nurse when needed and coordinates patient flow.

- Identifies and pursues professional growth opportunities.
- Attends educational events and shares knowledge with colleagues.
- Acts as a preceptor and mentor.
- Participates in professional organizations and prepares professional materials.

- Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care.
- Communicates and provides care appropriate to patient age.

- Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.

Position
Qualifications:
- License/Certification/
Education Required:
1. Graduate of an NLN or CCE accredited school of nursing
2. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
3. Current CPR certification - Preferred: 1. BSN 2. Certification in Oncology Nursing (OCN, AOCN, or CPON)
- Experience/
Skills Required:
1. Minimum of 2 years recent experience as an RN in Oncology
2. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team
3. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills
4. Ability to function in a busy setting with complex patient needs - Preferred:
1. Radiation Oncology specialty experience
2. Minimum of 2 years recent experience as an RN in an Ambulatory Oncology setting
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
