Responsibilities- Provide security for the safety and protection of hospital patients, staff, general public, and properties. Patrol buildings and grounds of hospital.
- Examine doors, windows, and other points of entry to ensure they are secure; tag and record all points of entry found unlocked or unsecured.
- Warn violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts in accordance with applicable laws.
- Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
- Observe departing personnel to guard against theft of hospital property.
- Record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and other acts of suspicious incidents; record all incidents in writing or electronic media.
- Assist local authorities with investigation of incidents committed on hospital properties; report all criminal acts to the appropriate security leadership and/or local authorities.
- Assist hospital staff as required, providing protection and safety to patients or other individuals.
- Adhere to all general orders and special orders as directed.
- Participate in hospital emergency response programs.
- Effectively handle a wide range of public safety issues, handling a multitude of variables in changing situations.
- Interpret and understand written and oral instructions.
- Apply common sense to instructions furnished by way of written document, oral command, or diagram.
- Cooperate with law enforcement agencies in accordance with the hospital's legal obligation to protect the rights and privileges of its patients in accordance with federal and state laws.
- Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Attend variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
- Demonstrate use of quality improvement in daily operations.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
- Respect diverse views and approaches; demonstrate standards of respect and contribute to maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility, and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as required or directed.
- License/Certification/
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Complete initial 8‑hour hospital orientation program and annual competency reviews, and any other training as may be mandated.
- Annual (or biannual as applicable) re‑certifications in CPR, fit testing for tuberculosis respirator masks, hazard communication program, annual fire suppression and hazard recognition training, annual self‑defense and management of violent situations training, annual training and physical completion for the emergency response team, and other training as may be determined by the supervisor of public safety.
- Avade 2 (restraint) training completion required within 6 months of hire.
- Experience/
Skills:
- Three years related experience and/or training in public safety.
- Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience providing proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
