Assistant General Manager Responsibilities
- Daily Supervision: Conduct daily walk‑throughs of guest rooms and public spaces to ensure friendly service, cleanliness, and operational testing. Verify room inspections and cleanup standards.
- Training: Provide one‑on‑one training to new team members on service and checklist expectations.
- Shift Management: Ensure Guest Service team members provide friendly service and confirm guest needs are met.
- Check‑in/Check‑out: Supervise peak check‑in/check‑out periods, including meal service times.
- Culture Building: Foster a positive environment for team members and guests.
- Room Inspections: Confirm daily room inspections and adherence to cleanliness standards.
- Inventory Management: Assist with inventory counts as directed by the General Manager.
- Onboarding Support: Aid in onboarding new team members and ensure compliance with onboarding checklists.
- Time Clock Oversight: Review team member time clock punches in accordance with policy.
- Auditing: Complete Daily Summary and Night Audit processes per policy.
- Reporting: Prepare shift handover reports and upload daily reports to the MCR report platform.
- Purchase Order Process: Ensure all purchases follow the correct purchase order process and invoices are submitted through the approved accounts payable system, using MCR approved vendors only.
- Invoice Sign‑off: Process invoices and accrue them to the proper period.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee brand standards compliance and conduct self‑audits, making corrections as needed.
- Safety: Verify fire and life safety inspections are current and rectify deficiencies.
- Escalating Opportunities: Review service failures and ensure proper escalation.
- Preventative Maintenance: Confirm preventive maintenance tasks are performed and quality‑checked.
- Adherence to Work Schedules: Monitor and adjust team members’ schedules per hotel requirements.
- Shift Coverage: Cover open department head positions as needed.
- Positive Attitude: Must have a can‑do attitude and willingness to learn.
- Follow Guidelines: Understand and follow established guidelines and procedures.
- Decision‑Making: Evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
- Work Under Pressure: Maintain composure in stressful, high‑pressure situations.
- Listening & Conflict Resolution: Effectively listen, clarify, and resolve concerns raised by co‑workers and guests.
- Financial
Skills:
Work with and understand financial information and basic arithmetic. - Attention to Detail: Meet deadlines and maintain accuracy.
- Technology: Proficient in Windows OS, approved spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Communication: Convey information and ideas clearly.
- Hospitality & Guest Service: Lead team members to provide friendly service with a smile.
- Licenses &
Certifications:
Must meet legal age for alcohol service; valid driver’s license required. - Market Knowledge: Basic market knowledge.
- Age Requirement: 18 years or older.
- Schedule & Travel: Willing to work varied schedules, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Previous supervisory experience preferred; progressive hospitality, hotel, restaurant, or service industry experience preferred.
- Stand or remain stationary for 3–4 hours at a time.
- Operate computers, type, perform 10‑key data entry, handle tools, and manipulate objects.
- Lift and transport supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Inspect and observe details up close and from a distance.
Noise level is moderate (phone ringing, communication between staff and customers). Travel may be required.
Language and Reasoning Skills- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Interpret documents, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports, correspondence, business letters, summaries, and reports in English.
- Speak effectively in English before groups such as customers or employees.
- Read and interpret business records and statistical reports in English.
