Summary
The Engineer I performs routine professional engineering work requiring the application of basic engineering principles and techniques, according to specific instructions and following well-established practices; and performs other related duties as assigned.
The Engineer II performs specific and limited professional engineering assignments requiring application of standard professional methods and techniques, which may involve minor phases of a broad project; and performs other related duties as assigned.
The Engineer III performs moderately difficult professional engineering work in the planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation and/or evaluation of engineering projects or facilities or assists higher-level engineers on more complex projects; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification RequirementsApplicants will be placed on the eligible list for ALL levels for which they are qualified.
- To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Basic Education
: A bachelor's degree from a school of engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Relevant substitutions as described in the complete Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply. - Note: Applicants who will graduate within three months and will meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon their graduation will be accepted for examination. If you are graduating within three months with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university or a Master’s degree in a pertinent engineering field from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university, please submit a copy of your official transcript and a letter from your department head verifying your current enrollment, expected graduation date and major with your application.

Experience:
None required for Level I;
One (1) year for Level II
; Two (2) years for Level III of progressively responsible professional engineering experience demonstrated through knowledge and application of basic physical and mathematical sciences and engineering principles. - Driver's License: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
