Position: Superintendent- 3rd Shift          at Halmar International        in        Mill Valley,        California

Superintendent

Halmar International is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee field operations for the Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing daily construction activities associated with complex heavy civil and bridge retrofit work. The Superintendent will ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications and quality standards.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in bridge construction, seismic retrofit projects, marine operations, structural steel erection, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all field construction activities for assigned project areas.
  • Coordinate daily operations of subcontractors, craft labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Develop and implement short-term and long-term work plans to achieve project milestones.
  • Ensure all work complies with project specifications, contract requirements, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Conduct daily coordination meetings with field staff, subcontractors, and project management personnel.
  • Monitor production rates and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule objectives.
  • Coordinate structural steel installation, concrete placement, seismic strengthening activities, and bridge rehabilitation operations.
  • Oversee marine and over-water construction operations as required.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and safety personnel to resolve field issues and maintain project compliance.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, work packages, and shop drawings to support field execution.
  • Identify and proactively resolve operational challenges, conflicts, and schedule constraints.
  • Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of construction equipment and temporary works.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, manpower tracking, and progress documentation.
  • Manage inspections, testing activities, and acceptance of completed work.
  • Support project scheduling efforts and participate in look-ahead planning meetings.
  • Promote a culture of safety excellence and ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety requirements.
  • Interface professionally with owners, inspectors, engineers, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of heavy civil construction experience, including 5 years in a Superintendent or leadership role.
  • Experience managing bridge construction, bridge rehabilitation, or seismic retrofit projects required.
  • Knowledge of structural steel erection, reinforced concrete construction, foundation systems, and marine construction operations.
  • Strong understanding of Cal/OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and quality control processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and construction documents.
  • Experience coordinating large union work forces and multiple subcontractors.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work fronts within a complex infrastructure environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout project locations as required.

Work Environment

  • Primarily field-based on an active heavy civil construction project.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, elevated work areas, bridge structures, and marine environments.
  • Regular walking, climbing, standing, and traversing uneven terrain and construction work zones.
  • May require night shift, weekend work, and extended hours to support project operations and critical construction activities.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times while in construction areas.
  • Occasional travel to project offices, fabrication facilities, and stakeholder meetings may be required.
