Community Development Intern
Located in the heart of the Peninsula, the City of Millbrae is a vibrant community with a rich history and an exciting future. We are seeking motivated, curious, and service-oriented individuals who are interested in gaining firsthand experience in municipal community development.
This position is limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year, averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Work schedules are based on business needs and candidate availability and are typically during normal business hours.
The Community Development Intern will support the CDD Department by assisting with planning, building, code enforcement, administrative, and data collection projects. Under close supervision, the Intern will gain hands-on experience with a variety of community development activities while supporting the department's daily operations.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Assisting with meeting preparation, community outreach, and departmental initiatives
- Conducting research, collecting data, and preparing reports to support planning, zoning, building, and code enforcement activities
- Assisting with development review, permit processing, community outreach, and other CDD projects
- Responding to requests for information and assisting with day-to-day office operations
Education:
Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, an accredited college or university. Preferred fields of study include:
- Urban and Regional Planning
- Public Administration
- Community Development
- Public Policy
- Sociology
- Geography/GIS
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A can-do attitude
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- The ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently
- An interest in planning, community development, and local government
