Millbrook School seeks a Mandarin teacher capable of teaching all levels of high school Mandarin to join the school's vibrant World Language Department beginning in the  academic year. Millbrook’s World Language Department promotes student language proficiency through a curriculum that emphasizes authentic languages starting at the novice level, and the school is eager for a collaborative colleague who will embrace its strengths and further its development.

Strong communication skills and interest in 21st-century pedagogy, integrated performance assessment, and continued professional growth are essential.

A bachelor’s degree, native speaker or proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin, and fluency with Chinese language instructional pedagogy are required. Coaching & teaching experience are preferred.

In addition to teaching four sections (or the equivalent), this position includes coaching or supervising an afternoon program for two out of three seasons (or the equivalent). Full-time faculty members are also expected to participate in community service, evening responsibilities, activities, assemblies, and attend required meetings and workshops. The primary goal of a teaching faculty member is to ensure that each student reaches their full potential.

Housing may be provided and would entail residential life duties.

The annual salary range for this teaching position is $41,000-$90,000. When determining placement within the salary range, Millbrook School considers total teaching experience, the number of years worked at Millbrook School, and other factors permitted by law.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS FOR FULL-TIME FACULTY MEMBERS
  • Teaching:
    Teach four sections of a subject (or the equivalent)
  • Coaching:

    Coach two seasons (or the equivalent)
  • Community Service:
    Advise or assist with community service.
  • Assemblies:
    Attend assemblies on designated mornings throughout the school year.
  • Evening Responsibility:
    Faculty who live in school-provided housing will have an evening responsibility.
  • Activities:

    All faculty support our weekend programming on their assigned weekends.
  • Advising:
    All faculty are expected to have between one and six advisees per year, to communicate regularly with advisees’ families, and to write three advisor letters for each over the course of the year. The advisor is the primary resource for a student and their parents or guardians, acts as a mentor, and shepherds the student’s growth over their time isors meet weekly with advisees on Tuesdays during alternating seated lunches and meeting times, and schedule additional time as needed.

    Advisors must maintain regular contact with parents or guardians and keep them informed of their child’s progress. Advisors should also communicate proactively with colleagues about their advisee.
  • Miscellaneous:
    Share in all other boarding school responsibilities, including office hours, assembly, formal dinner, department meetings, faculty meetings, orientation programs, award assemblies, trustee and parent weekends, workshops, and additional duties as determined. All faculty are also expected to assist with opening days, winter weekend, and commencement weekend.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject being taught or a related field.
  • Coaching and teaching experience preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills.
  • Faculty members must have a clean & valid driver’s license.
