Millbrook School seeks a visual arts teacher as a leave replacement for the first semester (September - December) of the  academic year. This teacher will be the master teacher in Millbrook’s sequence of drawing, painting, and mixed media courses, culminating in an honors studio course. Candidates should be knowledgeable about contemporary art and art history, and possess three or more years of previous teaching experience.

They will steward two studio art spaces, a traditional drawing classroom, and Millbrook’s senior studios, which host the school’s most advanced drawing and painting students.

The teacher will join a vibrant, highly collaborative Arts Department in the Holbrook Arts Center, where visual and performing arts are brought together under one roof.

A bachelor’s degree in visual arts or a related field and strong communication skills are required. Coaching and teaching experience are preferred. This position includes teaching four sections (or equivalent), coaching a two-season program in two out of three seasons, and full‑time faculty duties such as community service, assemblies, evening responsibilities for those living in school‑provided housing, weekend programming, teaching advising, and participation in required meetings and workshops.

Housing may be provided and will entail residential life duties.

The annual salary range for this teaching position is $41,000 – $90,000. Placement within the range is based on total teaching experience, years worked at Millbrook School, and other legally permitted factors.

Responsibilities & Expectations for Full-Time Faculty Members
  • Teaching:
    Teach four sections of a subject (or the equivalent).
  • Coaching:

    Coach two seasons (or the equivalent).
  • Community Service:
    Advise or assist with community service projects.
  • Assemblies:
    Attend assemblies on designated mornings throughout the school year.
  • Evening Responsibilities:
    Faculty who live in school‑provided housing will have evening duties.
  • Activities:

    Support the school's weekend programming on assigned weekends.
  • Advising:
    Have 1–6 advisees per year, communicate regularly with families, write three advisor letters per advisee annually, meet weekly with advisees, and collaborate with colleagues to promote student growth.
  • Miscellaneous:
    Share all other boarding school responsibilities, including office hours, formal dinners, department meetings, faculty meetings, orientation programs, award assemblies, trustee and parent weekends, workshops, and additional duties as determined.
  • Assist with opening days, winter weekend, and commencement weekend.
Education and Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject being taught or a related field.
  • Coaching and teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Clean and valid driver’s license.

  • Must follow written and oral instructions.

Physical & Sensory Requirements
  • Function independently and move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Possess sight/hearing or use prosthetics that allow adequate sensory function.
  • Work in person on campus.
  • Be flexible and willing to adapt to new technology, teaching methods, and schedules.
  • Physically teach, coach, advise, attend meetings, and be an active member of residential life.
  • Lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., without restriction.
  • If coaching, be willing and able to travel and attend sporting events on nights and weekends.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
Working Conditions
  • Typical office and classroom conditions.
  • Involved in residential life in the dining hall, chapel, and dorms.
  • Outdoor weather and/or indoor conditions while coaching.
  • Burst of heavy traffic, congestion, and teenage exuberance throughout the day.
