Emerging Store Manager - SC

Position Summary

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership role that prepares associates for potential Store Manager positions within Walmart US retail store operations. The assignment lasts up to 18 months, with mobility required within the assigned region. The ESM trains associates in merchandising, people leadership, financial management, customer experience and community engagement, while supporting store performance and developing leadership skills throughout the assignment.

• Train and develop associates in retail operational acumen, people leadership, merchandising strategy, financial management, customer experience and community engagement.
• Assist in managing the store’s financial performance by authorizing expenditures against budget, monitoring sales, profit goals, analyzing economic trends and budgeting.
• Support sales through effective merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, proper signage and inventory management.
• Model and enforce customer‑service standards, resolve complaints within company guidelines and provide coaching to associates and managers.
• Analyze staffing plans, forecast workforce needs, support succession planning and talent development.
• Lead community outreach programs, promote company initiatives and maintain relationships with key community groups.
• Maintain Open Door Policy, listen to associate concerns, research issues, and provide timely resolutions.
• Assist store management team by supporting objective setting, performance monitoring, feedback, training needs and action planning.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, monitor reports, implement asset protection and safety controls, and oversee quality assurance.
• Execute multiple business plans and projects, remove barriers, measure progress and adjust performance as needed.
• Build partnerships with Market Managers, Regional leadership, Merchandising, HR and Asset Protection to sustain key objectives.

• Required:
  
  Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, retail management or related field; AND 2 years of general management experience in retail, operations or distribution; supervising, evaluating, mentoring and developing managers; financial accountability.
• Alternate: 4 years of general management experience in retail, operations or distribution with the same responsibilities.
• Ability to maintain mobility within assigned region for Store Manager application.
• Completion of required background checks for firearms or ammunition facilities as applicable.

• Three years of management experience with financial accountability in a retail or multi‑unit environment.
• Additional coursework or certification through Live Better U and Bellevue University.
• Demonstrated willingness to relocate within region for Store Manager placement.
• Experience as Walmart Assistant Manager, Coach or Store Lead ready for increased scope.
• Experience running a fresh, dry grocery or general merchandise area and supervising 50+ associates, including evaluating performance and making hiring decisions.

Competitive base salary ($85,000–$120,000) plus annual or quarterly performance bonuses and regional pay zone adjustments.
