Heavy Equipment Operator Job Overview The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of assigned equipment on a daily basis. This role plays a key part in meeting production goals while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Assigned equipment may change periodically based on coverage needs and overall operational demands. This position may also be required to report to other company sites as needed to provide coverage and support operations.

Locations in Montgomery, Clanton, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

Operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently at all times

Adapt to operating different types of equipment as needed based on coverage and operational requirements

Maintain clean and properly functioning equipment

Ensure a clean, safe, and drug-free worksite

Participate in all safety meetings and follow safety protocols

Inspect equipment upon arrival and ensure it is properly cleaned and fueled at the end of each shift prior to leaving the jobsite

Complete and submit daily equipment inspection reports

Report any maintenance or repair needs to the management immediately

Perform daily greasing, fueling, and general upkeep of equipment

Keep equipment clean by removing trash and debris daily

Track and report daily production (load counts, tonnage, time, etc.)Understand daily production goals and strive to meet or exceed targets

Maintain material specifications and make adjustments as needed

Report all accidents and incidents promptly to management

Communicate effectively with team members using two-way radios

Assist in training and cross-training team members

Travel to and work at other company locations as needed to provide coverage and support operations

Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age Experience operating at least one type of heavy equipment (such as excavator, loader, dozer, or articulated truck) required

Experience operating multiple types of equipment preferred

Demonstrate ability to operate equipment safely, efficiently, and with attention to detail

Basic knowledge of equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and daily servicing requirements

Understanding of jobsite safety practices and ability to follow all company and regulatory safety standards

Willingness to be cross-trained and adapt to changing equipment assignments and jobsite needs

Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding outdoor environment in varying weather conditions

Strong communication skills and ability to effectively use radios to coordinate with team members

Dependable with a strong work ethic and consistent attendance

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team

Physical Requirements Ability to exert force when pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying objects, occasionally up to 50 pounds or more Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing throughout the workday

Precise control of levers, pedals, and equipment controls requiring strong hand-eye coordination

Ability to maintain clear vision and depth perception to accurately judge distances and identify hazards

Ability to hear verbal instructions, radio communication, and equipment sounds

Ability to maintain balance and stability while operating equipment on uneven terrain

Ability to safely enter and exit equipment multiple times per shift
