We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to lead accounting policy, financial reporting, and general ledger governance activities for a growing insurance-focused organization. This individual will serve as a key technical accounting resource, providing guidance on complex transactions, accounting standards implementation, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting matters. The role will partner closely with finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to support accurate financial reporting, efficient close processes, and ongoing compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements.
Hybrid 2 days/week in Short Hills, NJ
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the organization's technical accounting subject matter expert for U.S. GAAP and insurance statutory accounting guidance.
- Monitor emerging accounting and regulatory developments and evaluate their impact on financial reporting processes and policies.
- Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and ensure consistent application across the organization.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee accounting policy documentation and governance procedures.
- Manage core accounting operations, including general ledger oversight and account reconciliation processes.
- Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Review and analyze financial results, identifying trends, variances, and areas requiring further investigation.
- Prepare and review schedules, supporting documentation, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory reviewers during examinations and audits.
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Partner with finance leadership to improve reporting processes, controls, and operational efficiencies.
- Support internal control initiatives, compliance programs, and financial reporting governance activities.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development for accounting team members.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, insurance statutory accounting principles, and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with general ledger management, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Ability to research and interpret complex accounting guidance and communicate conclusions effectively.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience working within accounting or ERP systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or team management experience.
- Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
