Job Summary
Position: Network Engineer
Location: RWJBarnabas Health Corporate Services
Department: IT&S Network Systems
Status: Full-Time,
Shift: Day
Pay Range: $83,156.00 - $ per year
Responsible for daily operations support, maintenance and implementation of a robust network infrastructure across RWJBarnabas Health’s systems. Works collaboratively with management to define standards, policies and protocols, and provides on‑call support 24/7.
Responsibilities- Provide daily operations support and maintenance for the network and related IT assets.
- Participate in the application of network and related IT technology assets into the enterprise.
- Participate in the development and implementation of automated systems for corporate and affiliate entities.
- Install, configure and maintain network and related technology infrastructure environments.
- Work with management to define standards, policies, procedures and technologies to facilitate management, accountability, functionality and security of the technology infrastructure.
- Schedule installations and upgrades, maintaining them in accordance with established policies, procedures and SLAs.
- Participate in the testing and implementation of interfaces.
- Perform analysis to define reporting requirements (e.g., performance, capacity, change management).
- Proactively monitor system, network and infrastructure assets to provide stable, dependable services and conduct trend analysis.
- Provide customer and peer training on network tools, processes and procedures.
- Participate in projects, architecture and support as a technology subject‑matter expert.
- Be on call 24/7 on a rotating schedule.
- Escalate problems as appropriate to management.
- Implement and maintain LAN (L2/L3, spanning tree, VTP, VLANs, physical cabling), remote VPN software, and protocols (QOS, PoE, NTP, DHCP, CDP, SNMP, SSH, HTTPS, AAA).
- Leverage strong knowledge of equipment, production processes, quality control and efficiency techniques.
- Maximize network performance through monitoring, troubleshooting, upgrades and vendor collaboration.
- Prioritize tasks based on urgency and site needs, managing realistic expectations for client satisfaction.
- Provide support for all network and data communication issues, including private and internet circuits, routing, VPN connectivity, hardware and 3rd‑party vendor connectivity.
- Report network operational status, gather and prioritize information, and manage projects.
- Research networking issues and products, applying critical thinking to evaluate solutions.
- Configure, install, maintain and document in‑depth troubleshooting tasks and network issues.
- Support during and after network cut‑overs and changes to the environment.
- Work with management to define standards, policies, procedures, software toolsets, and peripherals for secure, functional, and accountable networked Unix systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent certification.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in information technology and services.
- Strong IP routing and networking protocol experience, including IPv
6. - Knowledge of enterprise‑grade IP networking routers (e.g., Cisco, Aruba).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Two or more years of experience with switch infrastructure.
- Knowledge of routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, MPLS.
- Experience in the health care field helpful, but not required.
- Required:
CCENT;
