AVP, Commercial Underwriting LOB Manager

Coleman Search Group is partnered with a longtime P&C carrier client to identify an AVP LOB Manager (GL and Umbrella) to support growth and underwriting profitability initiatives for their commercial casualty lines of business.

This position reports to Short Hills NJ on a hybrid basis. The ideal candidate will possess deep underwriting expertise within the GL and Umbrella commercial lines of business. This leader will lead, manage, coach and mentor a team of 5 staff. S/he should possess a consultative mindset and approach to the business while also being technical from an underwriting and analytical perspective.

• Partner with regional underwriting leaders to grow the commercial liability business.
• Lead a team of LOB underwriting and coverage form SME’s for the GL and Umbrella Casualty LOB. Oversee evaluation of ISO rate, rule, and form changes; develop proprietary coverage solutions.
• Analyze performance trends in collaboration with Claims and Actuary, and recommend actions to improve results.
• Lead corporate underwriting activities for ISO and proprietary rates, rules, and forms, coordinating research, development, implementation, and regulatory filings.
• Provide technical underwriting guidance to regional teams, business segment leaders, and internal stakeholders to support profitable underwriting outcomes.
• Collaborate with Corporate Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, and regional leadership to develop and execute underwriting and product strategies.
• Ensure all activities comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor loss trends, emerging risks, and portfolio performance; conduct portfolio, file, and large loss reviews and develop action plans.
• Collaborate, participate, and/or manage IT project requirements, state filings and regulatory objections.
• Partner with Risk Management and Premium Audit to support regional teams and agents while promoting profitable growth.
• Manage cross-functional projects supporting line of business objectives.

• 10+ years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience supporting GL and Umbrella.
• 5+ years in Risk Management and/or Reinsurance preferred.
• 3+ years of leadership experience.
