Status: Regular Full-time, Non-Exempt, Benefited
Hourly Wage: $28.47 (higher starting pay may be offered depending on education and experience)

Under the direction of the Building Services Director, the Building Inspector is responsible for assuring compliance with the municipal code and the building code through inspections and plan review.
Responsibilities Position(s) SupervisedThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Job FunctionsMinimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in a construction trade, such as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, framer, etc.
Qualifications:
- Valid Utah Class D Driver’s License required.
- Ability to obtain a State Limited Building Inspector’s License (successfully passing at least one (1) building inspector certification exam) within six (6) months of employment.
- Residential Four Way Building Inspector Certified preferred.
- Knowledge of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and energy conservation codes; modern construction methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment; drafting techniques.
- Knowledge of legal system and procedures affecting planning, zoning and related operations of the city;
Knowledge of construction methods and materials common to residential construction projects; basic building codes and project management; building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and energy conservation codes; construction methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of basic blueprint reading, and related specifications. - Skill in diplomacy and cooperative problem solving.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and Microsoft products.
- Ability to interpret codes accurately and effectively; analyze permanent structures to determine conformity of established codes; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; read and interpret plans and specifications; visualize completed projects in planning stages and estimate the end results; estimate quantity of materials accurately; perform advanced mathematical calculations.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, federal agencies, state agencies, local governments, co-workers, and the public.
