Jiu Jitsu Lead Instructor - South Main Lead From the Front

Discipline isn't just what happens on the mats - it's how you run a program. If you hold a Black Belt and the leadership instincts to match, The Front's Jiu Jitsu Collective needs someone to guide both.

About The Front

The Front Climbing Club builds spaces where community runs as deep as the training. Across our Salt Lake City, South Main, and Ogden locations - plus our Jiu Jitsu Collective and Studio 1396 ceramics studio - we're united by one mission: create environments that inspire connection, growth, and an engaged, loyal community. We hold ourselves to a high standard of operational excellence, and we expect the same discipline and care from the people who lead our programs.

About

the Role

Based at our South Main location, the Jiu Jitsu Lead Instructor teaches on the mats and runs the day-to-day of the Jiu Jitsu Collective - from instructor development to program quality. This is a part-time position paying $22/hour for administrative work
, plus $65
Instructor Rate for time spent teaching. You'll partner closely with the Jiu Jitsu Administrative Lead and report to the Senior Manager of Programming.

What You'll Do
  • Teach Jiu Jitsu classes to the standards set for all Jiu Jitsu Instructors
  • Own the full employee lifecycle for the instructor team - hiring, onboarding, training, discipline, and offboarding
  • Audit classes and program offerings on a recurring basis, delivering direct, constructive feedback
  • Review and approve schedule change requests, escalating larger changes to program management
  • Review and approve social media content before it publishes
  • Keep the studio held to a consistent, disciplined cleaning standard
  • Build and coordinate events, clinics, staff meetings, and new class offerings alongside the Administrative Lead
  • Partner with the Senior Manager of Programming on recruitment, training standards, and disciplinary matters
  • Show up for meetings and operational protocols as the program requires
What You Bring
  • A current Jiu Jitsu Black Belt ranking - non-negotiable, since you'll be training and certifying other instructors
  • Five-plus years of relevant experience - workforce, higher education, or trade school - including at least one year working with the Microsoft suite
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • A command of the room: you motivate students and staff alike without needing to raise your voice
  • A genuine commitment to inclusion - every student, at every skill level, should feel respected and supported under your instruction
  • An eye for growth - you tailor your coaching and deliver feedback that actually moves people forward
  • Prior supervisory or management experience, with a track record of developing a team
  • Bonus: experience with social media strategy, or instructional background in other martial arts disciplines
  • Sharp conflict-resolution instincts, discretion, and the time-management chops to balance teaching with administrative work
  • A service mindset - you know customer experience is everyone's job, not just the front desk's
  • A passion for building the checklists and systems that keep a program consistent and efficient

Physical demands: This role moves. Expect reaching, bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping; grasping and manipulating objects; lifting up to 25 lbs; and extended standing, sitting, or walking with repetitive motion through the wrists, hands, and fingers. You'll be exposed to airborne chalk, dust, and cleaning supplies, with occasional evenings or weekends for classes, events, and staff meetings.
